Help us celebrate Route 66's 100th year with the Lebanon-Laclede County Route 66 Society! Join us for a special Route 66 Centennial Speaker Series event on Tuesday, March 24 at 6pm at the Lebanon-Laclede County Library and Route 66 Museum.
Enjoy a FREE presentation by educator and author, Andrew Speno. Andrew's book, "The Great American Foot Race" is written for youth in grades 5-12 and tells the story of how Oklahoma businessman Cyrus Avery teamed up with C. C. Pyle to hold a transcontinental foot race. This "Bunion Derby" motivated more than 100 men of all races and nationalities to run from California to New York City. Runners faced countless obstacles—from extreme weather to poor food and living conditions, to prejudice to injury—to make the cross-country journey across the United States.
This event is FREE and open to the public--no registration required. If you have questions, please email ConwayWest.TourismCenter@ded.mo.gov OR esemsch@lebanon-laclede.lib.mo.us
